Martlets vs Seaford College
Date: 19 May 2015
Venue: Seaford College
Time/Result: Lost by 9 wkts
Match Manager: Will Rydon
Umpire: Brian Tomalin
Scorer: John Betts
Summary: Sussex Martlets Lost by 9 Wickets
Sussex Martlets 101 all out (J Hope 27, C Barnett 3-13) Seaford College 103 – 1 (B Hemingway 40).
Unfortunately following a rain delayed start, the result of the game was significantly impacted by the result of the toss, both of which Seaford won.
Martlets batted first and got off to an interesting start with James Hope claiming the classic “not out first ball” decision, followed by a number of hefty blows to merit the top score in the innings of 27. And despite the top order looking very classy, we failed to capitalise and with both a moving lunch interval and a moving ball we never mastered the Seaford bowling attack, which was accurate and ably assisted by good catching (6 in all).
Our paltry 101 was never going to be easy to defend and no matter how often the captain changed the bowling (6 bowlers for the 21 overs) we were only able to make the one breakthrough and lost by a comprehensive 9 wickets.
