Brighton Brunswick (236-7 in 40 Overs; B Gaylor 75) beat Sussex Martlets (208 in 38.2 overs; D Rebbetts 58) by 28 runs
On a glorious day at Hove the Martlets won the toss a choose to field. Excellent bowling and sprightly fielding, including three outstanding catches, restricted Brunswick to 87 for 4, midway through their allotted 40 overs.
It was an innings of two halves, however, as Brad Gaylor (75) batted intelligently by rotating the strike and scoring at every opportunity. When he was joined by Johnny Phelps (38) the pair accelerated and set the platform for the Brunswick tail to add 90 in the last 10 overs of the innings, finishing on 236 for 7. Paul Walker was the pick of the bowlers, using the leg side trap effectively to record figures of 8-0-47-3.
The Martlets chase was cautious but momentum could never build while wickets were falling at regular intervals, Darryl Rebbetts (58) was the mainstay of the innings and a fine catch was required to end his stay. There were notable knocks from young Eastbourne pair Walter Huchu (28) and Jack Fletcher-Price (24) before Matt Reynolds (28*) and Ben Davies (37) put up amazing rearguard action, with Ben only facing 18 balls, which included four fours and two sixes.
Davies fell with 40 runs still required in the remaining four overs. Despite their best efforts, it was a step too far and the Martlets were all out for 208, losing by 28 runs.
