Day 3 and I don’t know about everyone else but I was struggling. Knees hurt, ankles hurt, dehydrated, slightly wobbly at breakfast..
We had a change of venue for this one but St Hugh’s was quite lovely. The attritional nature of an O40s tour however meant that we had 9 players left.
SOA skipper Wildman happily leant us a couple of fielders though and off we went. He had been in the Oxford Downs side but we managed to extract him for 19. This time however was very different. He was objectively the best player on the pitch and cruised to a retirement on 101. Next highest scoring batsman for SOA made 18.
SOA declared after 40 overs on 170-6.
A novel combination of Bushell and Savage opened the batting and it was not long before it became clear that we were in this for the draw. With a top score of 14 between us plaudits should go to those who ate up the most balls and that was probably Damien Cashinella and Neil Billing.
That we managed to hold on with our 8th and last wicket stand through the 20 overs from 6pm was a great achievement and a nice way to finish off the tour.
A success of a first tour and we look forward to building on it and moving forward to next years outing.
