Match Report
| The Martlets arrived at Crowborough Beacon G.C. on a pleasant sunny June morning. We were welcomed by Charles Tankard Crowborough’s Match Manager and Robert Reed the Martlets Match Manager who was standing in for James Goddard.
The Crowborough Course was running hard and fast and with its sloping fairways it was difficult for both the Crowborough team and the Martlets. Despite leading from the front Robert Reed (Match Manager) and his Olympian partner Richard Leman were the only pairing to win their match. Halves were secured by messrs Hartridge & Barnett & Stedman and Ritchie. The rest of the Crowborough pairings were just too strong for the Martlets winning the match 4:2 Crowborough provided an excellent lunch and a very warm speech by Charles Tankard, to which Robert Reed replied with a speech that had both teams in tears of laughter, it is quite possible Mr Reed could make a living out of after dinner speeches!
