A young yet experienced Martlets succumbed to an Eastbourne Xl at the Saffrons. Electing to field first, the Martlets picked up two quick wickets. The home side rode there luck as the Martlets missed chances, shelling at least 2 or 3 half chances. With a short boundary on one side of the wicket the Martlets found it difficult to operate two spinners. Pick of the batsman for Eastbourne was Dan Wells 83 and Josh Presland 92, both were dropped on low scores. A late declaration came at 351 for 6 from 55 overs. In reply the Martlets found themselves 9 for 3 then 63 for 5 with some indifferent umpiring decisions. Some excellent counter attack batting from Joe Waylett scored 55 from 39 balls, was ably supported by Shaun Johnson who scored 35 from 32 balls. Martlets were dismissed in the 27th over, with 16 overs remaining in the last hour. Thanks to all those who attended and played in the fixture, all the Martlets where well catered for and welcomed by Eastbourne.
