A twelve strong Martlets team headed out on the Old Course against Royal Ashdown on a beautiful warm and sunny spring day. The Martlets got off to a fast start with Club Chairman Stuart Ritchie, Hon Sec Adrian White, new member Steve Pook and new match manager Peter Scaramanga all helping the team to a 4-2 lunchtime lead.
The teams then sat down to refreshing and highly convivial lunch and it was very good to see long time Martlet David Scrivens join us and offer wise words of encouragement.
The teams then headed out on the West Course in the afternoon and fortunately the Martlets stamina and determination overcame a Royal Ashdown fightback and, when the scores were added up over tea and cakes, the result was Royal Ashdown 4.5 against Sussex Martlets 7.5. Three Martlets deserve mention in dispatches, namely Patrick Hole, Robert Reed and Adrian White, who all won both their matches
A big thank you to all the Martlets who played and to Royal Ashdown for hosting a wonderful day’s golf.
Peter Scaramanga
