Sussex Martlets 91

Martlets lost by 57 runs. This was another 40 over match this time against Ed Joyce’s old club (his Mum is the Fixtures Sec and was our contact), played at Merrion’s ground in Anglesea Road, Ballsbridge. Merrion started off briskly attacking the Martlet bowling from the start but persistent and accurate bowling from all the cast (7 bowlers sharing the 10 wickets) led by a pacy Tony Alexander, who took 2-36 in his 8 overs, restricted the hosts to a total of 139 in the 33rd over. The Martlets reply was disappointing given the very achievable target and some poor shot selection caused the demise of our more experienced batsmen. Only Nick Seager looked as though he could see the Martlets over the line at one point with a muscular 27 and despite Mark Trubshaw depositing their excellent offie in the river, the tourists fell well short at 91 all out in the 24th over.
