Eastbourne College won the toss and elected to bat, Martlets hoping to exploit the early season moisture in the pitch. Several early deliveries flew off the edges and refused to go to hand, the first wicket came with the score on 36 yet the Martlets had to wait an hour and 80 runs before there second and fought back well to go to lunch with the college 138/5 from 31 overs. After Lunch the College batted well and Marlets luck went by the wayside as there where only able to pick up 2 more wickets in the game, Eastbourne College declared at 15.45 on 277/7, with no batsman reaching 50.

A tricky 45 minutes before tea was almost successful negotiated but sadly 2 wickets fell in the last over and an early tea was taken with the score on 30. A smart one handed catch succumbed another Marlets batmans first over after lunch, skipper Mark Trubshaw & guest Angus Stewart (34) steadied the ship before the latter was adjudged lbw. Trubshaw was struck on the hand 8 short of his half century and was eighth man out for 55. Sadly only three Marlets batsman got into double figures and where dismissed for 128 with 16 overs of the game remaining.
