Venue: Friends of Arundel Castle CC
Time/Result: Win
Match Manager: Ian Cox
Umpire: Les Newcombe
Scorer:
Lady Mary Mumford’s XI 254 – 6
Sussex Martlets 255 – 4
Lady Mary’s won the toss on a flat looking Arundle wicket and proceeded to to put the ball to all parts early on despite some useful bowling from Dan Smith and Darren McDonald but the martlets fought back and picked up wickets all through the morning session which ended 175-6. After the usual fantastic lunch The Lady Mary’s batsmen continued to score consistently and a very generous declaration from James Pyemont at 3 pm on 254-6 left the Martlets in the region of 50 overs to make the required runs. After the early loss of Julian Hunt, plumb LBW for 0, James Chadburn and Dan Smith batted beautifully until Chadburn nicked a good delivery behind for 42. Another usefull stand between Smith and youngster George Martin was ended after Martin was held behind and when Smith soon followed to a well crafted 73 the Martlets were in a spot of bother. However a steady 38* by the ever reliable Mike Murray and a hard hitting 55no from just 40 balls by newcomer Ian Long saw us home with a comfortable 5 overs to spare.
