Sussex Martlets endure a difficult day at Arundel
Another wonderful day at the Castle followed as the MCC won the toss and elected to bat. From 100 yards away it looked like a classic Arundel road and what ensued was a bit of a one-sided affair. The Martlets started well, restricting the MCC to 138 for four off the first 31 overs, Dan Smith doing most of the damage with some excellent off “spin”. I think the Martlets then had a little too much of a fine lunch as the MCC put on the next 180 runs off 20 overs for no loss!
A big swing in momentum continued into our batting innings as we saw ourselves 32 for 7 on a flat one. Michael Murray (44) and Jamie Hutchings produced some kind of fightback as we scraped up to three digits only to be bowled out for an under-par 100. Not the finest day for the Martlets but still a wonderful day at the prettiest ground in England.
