Match Manager: Alex Wingfield-Digby

Scorer:
Sussex Martlets 147, W Wingfield Digby 75
St George’s College 148 – 3, R Mainwaring 84*
On a cold and damp May morning, the Martlets were put into bat in challenging conditions. Early conditions offering plenty of swing and seam movement, for Adam Hackett and 15 year old debutant Oliver Selby, and the club were reduced to 80 for 3 at lunch. After lunch the school piled on the pressure with young off-break bowler, James Smith, picking up wickets. Only Will Wingfield Digby seemed comfortable in the conditions compiling a patient and skilful 75. Other contributins of 23 and 21no, from Adam Fonfe and Alex Wingfield Digby respectively, ensured that the Martlets at least had a defensible target, setting the opposition 148 to win.
With both condiditions and experience on their side, the Martlets hit the field with confidence. Joe Lewis claimed two early wickets in a hostile opening spell which deserved more, but the target proved easy to reach. St Georges won by 7 wickets thanks mainly to a stunning debut knock of 84 not out by Robert Mainwaring.
