Sussex Martlets (198 for ? from 40 overs; O Jones 96) tied with St James Montefiore (198 in ? overs)
On Tuesday 19th July, which proved to be the hottest day of the year to date, the Sussex Martlets played their annual fixture at the very hospitable St James Montefiore. Having won the toss and elected to bat, Matt Reynolds and Jack Emmerson got the innings off to a sound start. The loss of Emmerson brought the in-form Owain Jones to the crease and he and Reynolds put on a hundred partnership to get the Martlets to 198 off their 40 overs, with Jones finishing on 96 and Reynolds on 46.
With the ball, early wickets from seamers Jamie Hutchings and Darryl Rebetts and leg spinner Ben Candfield, reduced the home side to 60 for five. A solid partnership was then built by regular Martlets Adam Davies and Hector Laughton, both playing for the opposition. As the game headed into the last few overs it was left to Darryll Rebbetts to take the final wicket with the scores level at 198 to leave the game tied.
My thanks to St James for their superb hosting and to the Martlets who made themselves available to play.
