Match Report
The Sussex Martlets Golfing Society welcomed their guests to West Sussex Golf Club, Pulborough on Thursday 21st November 2024 for their annual end of season Reciprocals Match on a day of challengingly cold weather.
Indeed, after just a few holes of play a snowstorm interrupted the previous sleet conditions to warrant a suspension in play. Luckily, and with not a little help from the commendable West Sussex greenkeeping team, golf was able to resume and allow a nine hole competition to be completed, the format being a pairs, foursomes Stableford.
The winners on a six hole countdown were Gary Barnett & Simon Bulteel representing Piltdown Golf Club, who had been deemed to have just nudged out the Martlet pairing of Stuart Ritchie and Bob Mitchell. Just a single point adrift in third place were Hamish Stewart & Neil Lancaster of East Brighton Golf Club.
The prizes were awarded over a delicious lunch to which much thanks must be given to the staff of the home club, after which Martlets and guests alike said their farewells. Everyone left contemplating a 2025 season that will surely provide more good sport and great company on both West Sussex and the wonderful host club courses that the Martlets are so privileged to be able to enjoy.
