Martlets vs Yellowhammers CC
Date: 20 Jul 2015
Venue: Tonbridge
Time/Result: Won by 20 runs
Match Manager: Mike Harrison
Umpire: Paul Fuller
Scorer: Robin Burns
On an overcast day at Tonbridge a young and strong Martlets side assembled to take on the Yellowhammers. After an incredible 310 tied match last year with the Martlets bowling second the Martlets match manager won the toss again and batted. Jacob Smith and Alistair Stanley moved the scoreboard along scoring 35 and 31 respectively before Toby Pullan came to the crease. Toby struck the ball quite superbly and was the mainstay of the innings scoring a very impressive 136 with his century coming off just 86 balls. With some quick runs from the tail the Martlets were all out for 294 just as the manager was going to declare at half time.
In reply Derek Horsham got the innings off to a great start with a wicket off the first ball. Jacob Smith’s brother Oli was playing for the Yellowhammers and scored a brilliant 131 in reply with two of the Yellowhammers batsman supporting him with 45 a piece. With a run a ball exactly required from the first ball (some might say a very good declaration/timed innings!) the Martlets we able to take wickets regularly with Jacob Smith taking 3 for 51. With some excellent fielding and catching the Yellowhammers required 23 off the last three overs with 3 wickets in hand. A diving catch from the manager and two incredible run outs from Jacob Smith on the boundary and Ali Stanley at extra cover with a direct hit finished the Yellowhammers innings twenty runs short on 274.
Quite exceptional catering and an exciting game once again makes this fixture Martlets will want to get into the team!
